My Small But Mighty 'O' Magazine Debut

Please don't laugh or snicker. I couldn't bare it. I really couldn't (wink), but gosh darn it, my photograph made it into the March 2010 issue of 'O' Magazine. Page 153!!! You're going to have to look real hard past that gorgeous blond and up over her left shoulder; this exercise may require a magnifying glass...but it's there (see the yellow asterisk in the top photo?), in all it's glory! (my Holiday Hunt card for Amanda Jaron, Jewelry Designer extraordinaire) When Amanda posted her video of the photo shoot for the magazine, I couldn't believe my eyes. How fun to see it (at 18 seconds - pause it) in the background. This was the highlight of my weekend - that and the Olympics and vanilla ice cream with a side of Earl Grey de la Creme steeped tea. (I remember being excited like this a few years ago. Remember?) Thank You Amanda for keeping that little postcard on your bulletin board and congratulations on your feature in the magazine! You look so incredible. (and your Hubby too!) And for the record...hot damn, I am going to frame it! LP xo

Sometimes it takes a while. Half a lifetime. To discover. What your purpose is. What floats your boat. (gosh that's cliche) I think the process of elimination is a very good strategy. Try this. Don't like it? Nope. Fine then. What next? Try that. Don't like it? Nope. No worries. What next? Try this. Like it? Kinda. O.K. What next? Try this and this and this and this. (ignore the snickering in the background. their opinions do not - I repeat - do not count in this process) Like any of those? Not really. Alright. What next? Try this. Love it? Ah huh. Pardon. Ya. Would you mind speaking up a little bit. Yes. I said 'yes' I love it. Well then. That wasn't so bad was it. Good. Trademarked, registered and copywritten.

REuse Those Textiles

Suddenly and swiftly; quite without warning - so quick that it is actually frightening me; I've fallen in love with textiles. In particular - used, aged, frayed, worn, torn, faded and forgotten textiles. Cigarette burns and coffee spots. Tea stains and mustard blotches. I love the textile artists (geniuses) who take these sad, lonely fabrics to make them 'of importance again'. Their shoulders are back and their head held high. A new 'design' life. I've also found a wonderful textile blog called Fibercopia and blog post about London's new tartan.....does your city have a tartan?

Myth of Hyacinth and Other Pretty Blueish Flowers

Hyacinth was a beautiful youth loved by both the god Apollo and the West Wind, Zephyr. Apollo and Hyacinth took turns at throwing the discus. Hyacinth ran to catch it to impress Apollo, but was struck by the discus as it fell to the ground, and died. A twist in the tale makes the wind god Zephyrus responsible for the death of Hyacinth. The youth's beauty caused a feud between Zephyrus and Apollo. Jealous that Hyacinth preferred the radiant archery god Apollo, Zephyrus blew Apollo's discus off course, so as to injure and kill Hyacinth. Apollo did not allow Hades to claim Hyacinth. Instead, Apollo made a flower, the hyacinth, from Hyacinth's spilled blood. I wonder about the myths for these other pretty blueish flowers? Do you know of them?

Visual Vamp and The Camel Toe

It's amazing what happens on the blogosphere when you are just minding your own business; painting the living/dining room an 'airy' shade called 'Atmosphere'. And then, setting up a temporary mini-altar of gratitude and respite from going up and down, and up and down a step-ladder - the sterling tray (yet another one) was a wedding gift for my parents 50+ years ago; it sports all the recipes for civilized cocktails of the 1950's. (ah my aching right arm and shoulder...although I highly recommend moving your blogging body more this year) After a hot pepper and green olive slice of crisp take-out pizza and an ice-cold beer (to mirror my outdoor weather brrr), I thought I might buzz about the net a bit. Whap! A crisis had somehow occurred without my knowledge - no, I'm not The President of The United States of Blogging, just a Canadian girl who moves about quite frequently. How did I miss all the commotion? It seems that this crisis has themes such as: bully, body-parts, fashion, credentials, copyright, faking it, talent vs pr, ego, hurt feelings, in-fighting, anon comments, habitually chic-ness and visual vampness. Wow, this year is going to be an exciting one! For the record, you know my deal: Freedom of speech, freedom of expression. (Loving ALL my blogging friends no matter what)
