Air and Simple Gifts

Culture is the soul of a nation and this was my absolute favorite part of yesterday. I would encourage you to click play, close your eyes and inhale this. Deeply. Air and Simple Gifts.

There was a short video on TMZ this weekend of Yo Yo Ma walking through the Washington airport over the weekend and the paparazzo, who knew he was who he was and knew he was playing at the inauguration, still asked him "how he got the gig" and "was he surprised?" Ma was completely gracious to the idiot.

This was a beautiful piece - I was so impressed that they all played memorized and so well given the cold. The clarinet player, I just googled him, was a kid from So. Side of Chicago and he's only 29!

Thanks for posting this! I listened twice!

This was my favorite part of the inauguration. It was interesting to learn that what we all heard was a recording – they were not able to play because it was too cold for the instruments to function.
