Oh yes, I read this on Maryam's site yesterday. I agree that we must not look away, that we must bear witness to this type of horror. I had a heated discussion with one of the photographers when I worked for the newspaper. I argued against the photographing of people jumping out of the World Trade Centers on 9/11. He defended the actions stating that it needed to be recorded for history's sake. He assured me that years in the future someone will try to say it never happened. The same is true for the genocide in Rwanda. That's why it's important for her to tell her story and for use to listen, not matter how difficult.The photo reminds me of one of my favorite projects called, "Kids with Cameras". You can find it here. You will be particularly interested in the Cairo: Treasure Among Trash. My favorite photo is one by Fabiola in Haiti. It's titled "Shirt". This is a very, very strong photograph and shows some great talent. Unfortunately the print is a little out of my budget right now, but I love this photo.
