The Billion Tree Campaign

Under the United Nations Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, people, communities, organizations, business and industry, civil society and governments are being encouraged to plant trees and enter their tree planting pledges on the UN web site. The objective is to plant at least one billion trees worldwide each year. The idea for the campaign was inspired by Professor Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate for 2004 and founder of Kenya’s Green Belt Movement, which has planted more than 30 million trees in 12 African countries since 1977. When a corporate group in the United States told Professor Maathai it was planning to plant a million trees, her response was: “That’s great, but what we really need is to plant a billion trees.” More interesting reading and links at EcoMom Alliance and if you can't plant a tree this year, you can inspire someone else to plant one or you can 'plant' a gorgeous tree on your wall by extreme-talent Canadian Photographer, Irene Suchocki.
In January, 2008, Irene was published in Canadian Geographic magazine and became Environment Photographer of the Year Award (2007). Her work was also featured in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. She is a self-taught photographer; born in Toronto, currently living in Montreal. She enjoys experimenting with different styles and techniques, both in-camera and in her digital darkroom. Faithfully capturing a scene is less important to her than finding that little bit of mystery or evoking a certain mood. Irene likes to explore the ethereal, the surreal, the whimsical, the mysterious, and the beautiful. She creates little poems for the eyes. Her work has appeared on numerous book covers and can be found in private homes around the world. You can purchase her work here, visit her website here and her blog here.
Plant one. Just one.

My husband plants a tree in our backyard almost every weekend it seems. I have to climb through a jungle just to get to my mail box lol. He's Greek you see, so as you can imagine we have every kind of fruit, nut and vegetable tree imaginable. You want a fig or a mango or a macadamia nut? No worries I'll step outside ;)

Those images are incredibly beautiful. They really draw you in a take you to la la land.
