A Book About Vaginas
Just as you wake up. The dreamy moment between somewhereland and your real life. That's a beautiful split second, especially if you are nudged awake by the warm, soft hand of your child. It's the same feeling as cuddling on a sofa with your toddler after you have bathed them and cozied them up in fleecy jammies. On the other hand, when your wake up call is this: "Mom, why do you have a book about vaginas in the living room?"..well then, that's a whole other ball game. I'm not even awake yet - where am I - oh, it's you - my 12 year old son. Gather your thoughts quickly....what do I say? - quick!, be quick. Rubbing my eyes and wisping away the wack of hair that's all over my face, that should be at the back of my head (I must have had a restless night), I begin to speak. Raspy voice..."It's a book about girls and how you should always treat them with kindness and respect." (man, I'm good) "Oh." he says giggling. "Nick and I were reading it out loud last night and we didn't know what the heck it was all about." And then he says to me as he bounces out of the room, "Can you make me some breakfast..and ah, Mom....Try to keep your stuff put away O.K. ."
