Skirt Length on Women, Judgements and Respect

A photo exploring the way women are made to feel judged by the length of their skirt has 'gone viral' after it was posted by an artist from Vancouver.
Graphic design student Rosea Lake posted 'Judgements' earlier this month on her Tumblr account, and it has since been shared more than 200,000 times.

Scary Scareb Sunday

In was a normal Sunday morning. Well, it was a normal Sunday morning and it wasn't a normal Sunday morning. My son is at a friend's house and my husband is at work and I'm alone with the dog savouring my morning coffee; the sun today is glorious - glorious for a Canadian February morning. I've even turned off the furnace and opened the window beside me. That's when my normal Sunday morning became the 'scary scareb sunday'. I had just gotten out of the longest and most incredible pampering shower, twisted my gloss-treated hair into a white fluffy towel, poured a second cup of joe and sat down to do a post. I think he may actual kill her. I grabbed my camera and thought about filming the dog in the backyard in an effort to capture his violent, abusive screaming - but decided to mind my own business, holding onto my lucky scareb to wish her safety. I mean. What would you do? The man and women living behind me in the most lovely home are scrapping it out like wild wolves. Things are slamming - fuck you - bitch - loser - and other horrible words are being shoved in her face. It's been going on for close to an hour now. I do not know them. What would you do? (I am NOT making this up.)

Haiti Food Lines: The Feminine Kind

If you look at the lines waiting for food in Haiti today, you will notice a big difference. The chaos has disappeared, the violence, the shoving, the bullies, the starving aggression, the angry; testosterone-filled hunters and gatherers have been replaced with the calm, the nurturing, the lovely. Women. Imagine that.

Hello Cheetah

You're lookin' mighty fine on that Vanity Fair cover. I guess I'll buy 2. One to swoon over and one to wrap up nicely for future investment. Annie photographs such as these, will certainly be worth a 'roar'. (Now Tiger....you've caused me a kerfuffle before...I'm not lion...so..I'm hoping this time, things will be different.)

The Best Movie Scene Ever

"This is really fascinating, what's going on at this table. Let's take you and Erica. You've been around the block a few times. What are you, around 60? 63. Fantastic! Never married, which as we know, if you were a woman, would be a curse. You'd be an old maid, a spinster. Blah, blah, blah. So instead of pitying you, they write an article about you. Celebrate your never marrying. You're elusive and ungetable, a real catch. Then, there's my gorgeous sister here. Look at her. She is so accomplished. Most successful female playwright since who? Lillian Hellmann? She's over 50, divorced, and she sits in night after night after night because available guys her age want something-forgive me, they want somebody that looks like Marin. The over-50 dating scene is geared towards men leaving older women out. And as a result, the women become more and more productive and therefore, more and more interesting. Which, in turn, makes them even less desirable because as we all know, men - especially older men- are threatened and afraid of productive, interesting women. It is just so clear! Single older women as a demographic are about as fucked a group as can ever exist." - Zoe, Something's Gotta Give
A close 2nd here.

Meet The Press

I've been screwing everything. There. I said it and I'm sorry. Happy now?

By Tiger Woods
I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.
I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.
After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.
Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

Is Marriage Obsolete?

Is every woman in the world worried about their man cheating on them? It seems that way. Women are NOT paranoid. This is a reality out there. Statistics show that a very high percentage of men are doing it. Is fidelity really possible? Is marriage obsolete?

Wedding Websites

Years ago (in the industrial age) we never had 'wedding websites'...now today! Boy oh boy! They've got it all! I don't mean all the wonderful wedding portals and blogs, although they are sick. (just found out from my 14 year old that 'sick' means 'awesome') I'm talking about the 'actual bride and groom' having 'a website' for their wedding. (soon people will have 'my operation website', 'my doggy potty training website', 'my toilet-training website', 'my ingrown toenail site'.....'our divorce site'..er....oh...that is happening already - it's called blogging.) And yet. I am amazed every day by the most heartbreakingly ubertalented creatives that cohabitate with me on this planet. How do minds work this way? Here, behold, a truly cinchy-perfect wedding website. Love it. Love it. (Have I mentioned before how I love blogging cause I dunnt have any grumpy cat-fightin' Editor asking me to go git her some joe or telling me to go read some passe out-of-date book on proper grammar and spelling and format/writing/etiquette bullshitty stuff?)

Swann Memorial Fountain

Today reminds me of the day I was in Philly. I just love this B&W shot I took (with film) of the fountain. (I wrote about this before..remember?) I didn't know that little face had popped up until I developed the film. I was chatting with my husband and just took the shot. (we were talking about the 'crazy crazy' cab driver that had just dropped us off...oh boy..what a weirdo..) What a joy to see this little face; refreshed, happy. I feel sad that there is a 'swimming ban' now. I took this around 1994. It was a source of cooling off for all the homeless children in the area. (and there are loads of them)

The Swann Memorial Fountain is a fountain sculpture located in the center of Logan Circle in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The fountain, by Alexander Stirling Calder designed with architect Wilson Eyre, memorializes Dr. Wilson Cary Swann, founder of the Philadelphia Fountain Society. The Society had been planning a memorial fountain in honor of its late president and founder. After agreeing that the fountain would become city property, the society was granted the site in the center of Logan Circle. Adapting the tradition of “river god” sculpture, Calder created large Native American figures to symbolize the area's major streams, the Delaware, the Schuylkill, and the Wissahickon. The young girl leaning on her side against an agitated, water-spouting swan represents the Wissahickon Creek; the mature woman holding the neck of a swan stands for the Schuylkill River; and the male figure, reaching above his head to grasp his bow as a large pike sprays water over him, symbolizes the Delaware River. Sculpted frogs and turtles spout water toward the 50-foot (15 m) geyser in the center, though typically the geyser only spouts 25 ft (8 m). The use of swans is a pun on Dr. Swann's name. Eyre designed the basin and the interlacing water jets, including the central geyser.
During warm months, swimming in the fountain is a long-standing Philadelphia tradition. In the summer of 2006, the City of Philadelphia began enforcing a swimming ban with a near constant security presence. This presence will taper off and disappear completely by 2009.

Validation

I don't know what to say to 'get' you to watch this whole short film. (sigh) It is only 16:23 minutes long. I truly think it will make your day. (weekend) It really made me think. I saw myself in this film - I know you will see yourself too. I hope you 'get' to watch it. Happy Weekend. Have I told you lately that you're an incredible person? You are.

Sex and The Altar

Could there be any worse 'altar' than being left or forgotten at one? Perhaps it is a promising event.

Watoto

Uganda. Aids. War. Poverty. Hunger. Children. Big eyes. Big smiles. Big dreams. Big hope. I had the pleasure of meeting these children last week. Backstage my tears jumped out of my eyes, literally. It was just me and them. I told each of them I loved them. They are orphans without parents. Lost in a land of a health and human rights crisis. I received a warm and cuddly hug from each of them. Their skin dark and tender with young years of sorrow and sadness under the surface. They had come to Canada to perform; sing happy songs of their culture - sharing their stories and asking for help to build a new life, home and education. Watoto is a response to the cry of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa, whose lives have been ravaged by war and disease. The Watoto model encompasses the construction of Children’s Villages, which provide a homely environment, where children are housed, clothed, fed, educated and spiritually discipled, with the intention to train and equip them as future leaders. You may download their brochure here, find a performance location here or book the choir here. Watoto blog too! If you feel you can and want to help the children of Uganda, here is a priority needs list. The boys were 'cool' and posed for me. The girls were excited and giddy and jiggly dancing all over...hence the blurred photos of them! LPxo
