The Best Beach House

I have sifted and perused through, dare I say, thousands of shelter magazines. I've surfed in and out of tens of thousands of online home design albums and blogs. I have bought decorating books and brought home arm-breaking piles of home hardcovers from the local library. But until today, I hadn't truly discovered; excavated my true authentic house. The one that just says 'that's me'. This is 'me'. It wouldn't matter if I had little or abundant money, this would be the house for me. Someday when you come to one of my cultural potlucks, this will be the home (kind) you will walk into. (click on the photos to see all the lovely, perfect-imperfect details) I won't bore you with the reasons why because the images completely say it all. What is your authentic house and have you found it yet?

The Long Long Spring Thaw

It is with great pride and excessive politeness that I ask you for forgiveness yet again for discussing the weather. I am Canadian after all.  We chat about this topic every 15 minutes every day of the week. The sulk continues all year.  Too humid. Too freezing. Too grey. Too windy. Too foggy. One could never state that Canada's weather is predictable and boring. Not like, say, the Middle East.

The citizens of this expansive, geographical wonder deserves an Olympic medal for remaining (generally) happy with all the temperatures and conditions that are literally thrown at us by Mother Nature.  Those skilled hockey teams and figure skaters have nothing on us!  We have mastered the ever changing forecast.

It is Spring. Apparently. I have made a promise. As long as it is not a white out blizzard then I am going to embrace what's happening outside wholeheartedly.  Openly. With gratitude. No complaining!

April. You aren't fooling us!  Dammit all though. Would you mind sending warm sunshine?

Real Leadership: 9 Simple Practices for Leading and Living with Purpose By John Addison

In Real Leadership, author John Addison shares his straightforward practices for successful leadership through his personal and professional journey, helping leaders at any level understand and emulate the nine principles that fostered enduring results on his path to success.

As co-CEO of Primerica--the largest independent financial services marketing organization in North America--from 1999 to 2015, Addison  spearheaded the company through a period of rapid growth in the early 2000's, then helped navigate the company through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and the separation from their parent company, Citibank, which created one of the most successful IPOs of the decade.

Guiding the organization through these monumental changes while also working to keep morale high, Addison developed a passion and talent for motivating others that allowed him to inspire and empower over a million people during his career.

The perspectives and personal laws of success that he’s developed over decades of hard work and diligence boil down to the principles of living your best life. Because that, says Addison, is the essence of leadership: having the courage, honor, and integrity to live your true life, the one you were put here to live, and to do it in a way that makes the world a better place than it was before you got here.

Addison's story shares his experiences--from small-town southern boy to influential CEO--providing a riveting read that is down-to-earth and profound in its simplicity and honesty.  His practical takeaway lessons will help you lead better in every aspect of your life. It’s the kind of leadership that others will follow over the long haul, through the good times and the bad, through the ups and the downs; it’s real leadership.

John Addison is the former Co-CEO of Primerica, the largest independent financial services marketing organization in North America. He currently serves as CEO of Addison Leadership Group as well as the leadership editor of Success magazine. As a renowned, world-class speaker, he has motivated millions with his  insight and wisdom on leadership, personal development, and achieving success in both their careers and their personal lives.

Don’t Make These 5 Common Legal Mistakes

Unfortunately, most people learn about these legal mistakes the hard way. Often they learn too late and there is little that can be done. The key is understanding these issues so you can make the right choices before a problem develops or a deadline is missed. If you have questions call your LegalShield provider law firm to speak with an attorney.
  1. Not having a will. Without a will, you could leave your survivors with a costly legal mess to clean up. Surveys show three main reasons why people don’t yet have their will: procrastination, the belief that they don't need one, and cost. Your LegalShield family plan solves all three of these problems. You can obtain a will questionnaire by calling LegalShield, your provider law firm or downloading one (U.S. residents click hereand Canadians click here). The questionnaire asks for information about your situation and desires. Once your questionnaire is received your provider attorney will draft your will.
  2. Signing a contract without an attorney review. Lawyers cannot change the past; NEVER sign a contract, lease or other agreement before you call your LegalShield attorney for review and advice. Contracts and other agreements are sometimes written to intentionally obscure the true meaning. Your LegalShield attorney can help you make sense of a contract, lease or other agreement to ensure you fully understand your obligations.
  3. Missing a statute of limitation deadline. Statutes of limitation are laws requiring an injured or aggrieved party to file a lawsuit within a certain time frame or forever lose the right to sue. The length of time to sue varies based upon the claim, type of injury, potential defendant and other factors. Nearly all claims are subject to statutes of limitation and some may be less than a year. The first step is to call your LegalShield provider law firm. You will need to speak with an attorney and provide necessary information to determine the statutes of limitation that apply to your case. After the appropriate statutes are determined, if you decide to proceed with a claim, an attorney may need several months to prepare the case for filing. It is essential to act quickly to protect your legal rights. If you have any questions about a legal matter, call your LegalShield provider law firm today.
  4. Buying into quick fix debt or credit relief plans. Many families feel overwhelmed by consumer debt. Companies that promise to help lower monthly payments and quickly pay off debt may sound like an appealing way out. Unfortunately, debt consolidation offers and credit repair plans are often too good to be true. There may be built in fees. If you have a poor credit rating, your consolidated debt may end up with a higher interest rate than you are already paying. Also, debt consolidators have been known to miss or make late payments. When monthly payments are not in your hands, you run the risk of the third party missing the payment or paying it late, which will negatively affect your credit and could result in additional fees. Call your LegalShield provider law firm for a review of any debt relief or credit repair plan and to learn what other options may be available.
  5. Protect your personal information. If you are asked for sensitive information, such as a Social Security Number, ask why it is needed and what systems are in place to protect it. Be wary of sharing personal information over the phone or email, especially if you’ve received an unsolicited communication (even if you do regular business with the organization). Many scammers pose as representatives of trusted businesses. Do not leave personal financial documents out in the open or anywhere you cannot limit access. If you believe you may be the victim of identity theft and you have an IDShield membership call (800) 806-3991. If you do not have an IDShield membership visit www.idshield.com to learn more.

Adrift in My Mind by Bri Land Reclaimed Wood Furniture + Wall Art

It is so humbling to be selecting the best of the best from across the globe.  As a Tastemaker for Great.ly I see a lot of talent. Bri Land takes my breath away!  You may purchase her work HERE.
At Adrift In My Mind, you will find unique reclaimed wood wall art and table tops made from wood found around the Houston, TX area.
AIMM is run by Bri Land, a self-taught artist and woodworker. She started playing around with woodworking in 2013 when she decided to build a tabletop for her own home. It has been about two years now and this thing that started out as an itch she had to scratch has turned into something that she can’t not do. Creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork has turned in to a very fulfilling full-time career.

Her process and style has evolved over the years. The pieces she now creates stem from a desire to create beautiful wall decor and table tops from discarded, forgotten wood. They are usually geometric in design and can be described as both rustic and modern.
I hope you enjoy her work as much as she enjoy creating it.
