Only the best of the best golfers are playing today at Liberty National Golf Club. (Vicente Wolf designed the clubhouse - VW Twitter and Facebook - more photos on Vicente's blog here.) Can you just imagine swinging your club and looking up into the eyes of Miss Liberty herself? Gasp! How cool is that? The wealthy Reebok founder Paul Fireman spared no expense at Liberty National: He trucked in and planted 2,000 mature maple, oak, and evergreen trees across the course, and embedded 5,200 sprinkler heads to keep Liberty National green during the summer months (that's roughly 50% more heads than you'll find on any other course). Imported Belgian block was used for the curb stone on the cart paths (as shown here on the second hole), costing $2.5 million alone. With breathtaking vistas of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline, Liberty National is one of the most talked-about new courses in the country. And coming soon: The Residences at Liberty, (be still my heart) a super premium luxury condominium community overlooking the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. The development consists of three high rise condominium towers (35, 43 and 50 stories) designed in a unified sail shape by NBBJ Architects, located on 15 acres adjacent to a golf course. Each of the over 900 homes, ranging in size from 1000 square feet to 5000 square feet, will have outstanding views to Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, New York Bay and the Verrazano Bridge. You will be able to enjoy a private scheduled 12 minute launch service to Manhattan on a high speed yacht. The Spa and Fitness Club will offer: wet and dry spa; massage treatment; exercise equipment; cardiovascular machines; free weights; and aerobics area. In addition, the community will be complemented by a retail marketplace, restaurant and a landscaped plaza park overlooking the golf course with the outdoor pool, cabanas and snack bar. I'm going to have to take up golf, but the membership fees are $500,000.00 !!! Sigh. (Listen to Vicente Wolf on The Skirted Roundtable.) Take a cool virtual tour of Liberty National here.
