Living National Treasures

You just have to fall in love with a country who recognizes and respects it's people. One example, as voted in, is Mary Paton. She was one of the key founders of the Nursing Mother’s Association, now the Australian Breastfeeding Association. This year the Association celebrates it’s 44th anniversary. In that time, attitudes to breastfeeding have changed dramatically. The very name of the association was chosen in 1964 because it wasn’t acceptable to say the word “breast” in public and the Postmaster General’s Department wouldn’t allow the word “breastfeeding” to be printed in the telephone directory! Since 1964, Mary Paton has dedicated her career and time to the cause of helping women successfully breastfeed their babies. Here is the complete list Australia's Living National Treasures.
