Come Walkabout

Sometimes we need to lose ourselves to find what matters most. Australia’s Aboriginal people know as much, going ‘walkabout’ to reconnect with the land and their traditional way of life. For most of us, ‘walkabout’ takes the form of a holiday - a time to rebalance and refresh. It lets us find ourselves when the pressures of daily life have made us lose touch. It doesn’t matter whether we go to the city, bush or beach, or drive, fly, walk, sail or catch a train. Going ‘walkabout’ lets us nourish the inner magic that makes our life rich. Watch Tourism Australia’s Destination Campaign by Baz Luhrmann and learn about the themes that inspired it.

All my stepbrothers and my stepsister live in Australia from one end of their continent to the other. My mom has been there many times including driving through the outback and taking the incredible train journey across western Australia to Perth. When my stepsister was in the U.S. she talked about how much she missed the Ghost Gum trees the beauty of the land.

Unfortunately she did not have good things to say about the treatment or attitudes towards the Aborigines.
