We can say whatever we want, whenever we want. We 'own' freedom of speech. We cannot be fired or reprimanded..or considered traitors - or be told we are being disloyal or acting in a manner which is unbecoming of a lady (or gentleman) - or practicing the act of insubordination. We don't have any favors to call in. We decide how much income we will make. We give ourselves raises and write our own pay cheques. (however big or small) We own it. We have taken back the power of the people. The democracy of journalism lives inside the blogging universe. We don't have editors or producers changing our words, our thoughts, our beliefs - our voice. We censor ourselves; if we want to. (Although I wouldn't encourage that - blogging allows for freestyle thinking and ideas. Go with it.)As a fellow blogger, I just wanted to thank each of you this morning for your comments, your opinions and your authenticity. Aren't we lucky, lucky humans.

It is true, the internet has created a paradigm shift in the way that information moves and has shared. I don't think many people realize the true significance. Let's just say it's the most important thing that has happened since Johannes Gutenberg built his printing press.

I know it feels like this is true, from our perspectives in the U.S. and Canada, but it is not true for many people living in other parts of the world. In Cuba, for example, blogging is considered a subversive act and must be done covertly. Regardless, dissidents are being born and finding a voice in the "Star Chamber" of the internet. We should all support their voices in whatever way we can. I cannot imagine living even one day in their shoes. They take profound risks for their right to speak the truth.
