Wasaga Beach Fire

Our entire town is very sad and in shock after a raging fire destroyed 70% of all the waterfront/beach businesses overnight. I'm sure many of you saw some news coverage as it received world wide attention - Wasaga Beach is the longest fresh water beach in the world. (Top photo is a before shot) 3 million people visit our beach each summer. Beach 1 is an extremely important historical area of Canada. Many of the buildings were built in the 1930's & 1940's. Our economical survival is now on thin ice. Now it's all gone. Gone. This is devastating. What is the future of Wasaga Beach? Click HERE.

omg!!! How horrible - this is like a hurricane that wipes out entire beach towns, but take heart, they always arise majically the next summer, amazing. And think of the oil spill in Alaska - totally recovered. It will happen there, even though it's hard to believe now. I'm tupid - yes tupid - is that the west or east coast of Canada?

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope no one or not many people have lost their lives. Material things will be recovered with time.

Wasaga Beach is in Central Ontario about 1.5 hours north of Toronto. The beach in on the shores of Georgian Bay. I'm sure it will be built up better than ever. No lives lost and that is the main thing. xo

Oh--when I first heard about this on the news, I was in shock--I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to comment before, since it's your hometown. I'm very glad to hear no lives were lost.

It's very coincidental that the developers that own the majority of beach area 1 lost nothing in the fire however the owners of the properties that were lost who would not sell to the developers lost everything, in fact it's so coincidental that the fires stopped right at the last building that the developers own.

This is not how business should be done in canada and I would like to see someone go to jail for the loss of our towns history
